Welcome to my blog! I hope to use this space to share my thoughts on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), anxiety, women’s health…and the overlap between all three.
As an undergraduate at Yale and a Ph.D. student at Rutgers, I developed a passion for CBT. I was fascinated by the idea that therapy could be systematically studied, and that there were research-supported, user-friendly strategies to help those with anxiety cope effectively. Upon graduation from Rutgers, I further honed my CBT skills at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy and the Rutgers Anxiety Disorders Clinic, where I later became an Assistant Director, supervising graduate students learning CBT.
While I was starting my career, I was also starting my family. I soon recognized that many of the worries of new parenthood mirrored those common to the anxiety disorders I was trained to treat. I started flexibly applying CBT strategies to support parents during this wonderful—but very challenging—stage of life. I wrote a book, Mom Brain, in the hopes of sharing these tools with mothers of young children.
As my career progressed, so too did my life as a mother. I moved on from the toddler stage to the tween and teen stage, from worrying about nursing and naps to fretting over group chats and eBikes. At the same time, I was grappling with other issues unique to women my age, among them “sandwich generation” stressors and a perimenopause-fueled bout of sleeplessness and anxiety. Once again, I found that CBT tools could be tailored to help women effectively address these issues.
I am passionate about CBT, particularly when flexibly applied to the myriad challenges that adult women face throughout the lifespan. I look forward to sharing some of my favorite strategies with you!
